Weather in Israel is classic Mediterranean, with very pleasant conditions during spring and autumn. Rainy days may be expected between November and early April, but it is dry and sunny during the rest of the year.
December-February: Winter - average temperatures between 5C-18C (41F-65F). Can get lower in certain regions (basically in the mountains) where temperatures can get as low as 0C (32F). On the Hermon Mountains snow can be expected during December-February, but everywhere else, snow is very rare.
What to wear? A good warm coat will be perfect for the colder regions, a fleece jacket is a good option for most winter days and in the warmer regions. Umbrellas, slickers, and rain boots are recommended because it can be rainy. Israelis recommend the “onion” technique – lots of layers that can be added/removed according to need!
March-May: Spring - very pleasant weather for hikes and trips around Israel. Average temperature approximately 16C-20C (61F-75F). About 3C (5.5F) colder in the mountains, and approximately 3C (5.5F) warmer in Eilat and the Negev.
What to wear? Bring both short and long sleeve shirts and light jackets, weather conditions can be fickle (and remember the onion technique from the winter…).
June-August : Summer - hot! Average temperatures 24C-35C (75F-95F). About 3C (5.5F) colder in the mountains, and approximately 3C (5.5F) warmer in Eilat and the Negev. In Eilat and other desert areas temperatures can go up to 42C (107F) during the day! Coastal regions are very humid during the summer, and it is recommended to drink a lot of water!
What to wear? Lightweight clothes, shorts, t-shirts, and bring a bathing suit.
September-November: Fall - average temperatures 16C-24C (61F-75F). About 3C (5.5F) colder in the mountains, and approximately 3C (5.5F) warmer in Eilat and the Negev.
What to wear? Similar to Spring. Bring both short and long sleeve shirts and light jackets.
